A few answers

Giving shouldbe clear.

The costs, the Friday rhythm, and where your money goes. Plain answers to the questions that matter.

What does Silent Hand cost?

Silent Hand charges 3% of each gift, shown up front before collection. Payment processing is separate: bank transfer (ACH) is about 0.8%, capped at $5; card is about 2.9% plus 30 cents. These are estimates of the payment processor's standard pricing.

By default, you cover the fees, so the estimated fees are added to what you pay. The payment processor takes its fee from the full amount charged, so the charity receives close to the whole gift, not exactly all of it: in the $10 example, about $10.00 by bank transfer and about $9.97 by card. You can turn fee cover off in the app. Then fees come out of the gift.

Why bank transfer by default?

The fixed 30 cent card charge takes a larger share of a small payment. Bank transfer helps keep the processing cost of small weekly collections lower.

These are estimates based on standard processing rates. Bank transfers take about four business days to settle.

Can I use a card?

Yes. Card is available as a backup. Before a switch takes effect, you see a screen with the real numbers, including payment processing and Silent Hand's fee.

When is money taken?

Logging a bill records a planned gift. It does not take money from your account.

The default Friday level is $5. Every Friday, a set-aside balance at or above your level is collected by bank transfer, with one charge for each cause. You can choose a different level. Below that level, it rolls forward. On the last Friday of the month, anything of 50 cents or more is collected.

A Quick give starts right away through a secure, encrypted checkout, with fees shown first. You can make one Quick give per day to one cause. Regular Friday collections continue alongside it.

Where does my money go?

Straight to each chosen charity's own verified account, according to your split. Silent Hand's 3% fee is split off per donation into its own account.

There is no pooled account. Silent Hand never holds donations in its own balance.

Is my bank or card information safe?

Card and bank details are entered on the secure, encrypted pages of Stripe, our payment partner, and kept there. Silent Hand does not store full card numbers or bank logins.

You sign in with a one-time code sent to your email, so there is no password to remember. Silent Hand does not sell personal information. Read our privacy policy draft for more detail.

How do Zakat and Sadaqah tracking work?

Each gift from a bill can be marked General, Sadaqah or Zakat. A gift marked Zakat can only go to a Zakat-eligible cause. Quick gives are not marked with an intention yet, so they do not count toward a Zakat goal.

You can set an annual Zakat goal and track what you set aside during the calendar year. A year summary shows giving by intention and by cause, for you to keep or share.

The app does not calculate what you owe. For questions about what counts as Zakat, speak with your scholar or imam. Read about intention and tracking.

How does a masjid or charity join?

Submit the organization's name, city, type and EIN, and whether it accepts Zakat. It stays pending until Silent Hand reviews and verifies it.

Then complete the secure payment setup. The bank account details and EIN go directly to our payment partner, not to Silent Hand. Once onboarding is complete, the organization receives a Verified badge.

Gifts are paid to its own verified account. Payouts appear in its own payout dashboard. See the steps for organizations.

Is Silent Hand live?

Silent Hand is in testing. No real money moves yet, and the app is not in the app stores yet.

The “Try the test app” links open the preview app, where you can explore the flow.

What happens if a bank debit is returned?

A returned bank debit can carry a fee. Bank transfers take about four business days to settle, so collection and settlement do not happen at the same time.

Can I change my causes or my Friday level?

Yes. You can change your causes and Friday level at any time in the app. Regular gifts can be split across several causes. Gifts marked Zakat can only go to Zakat-eligible causes.

How does a giving rule work?

After a purchase, enter the bill manually. Your rule sets a gift aside by rounding up to the next dollar, taking a percentage, or using a flat amount. Every gift is at least 50 cents.

The giving wallet is your ledger of planned gifts. There is no automatic bank transaction detection today.
